Getting started

Your first Introduction Video: a simple plan

One useful example, a quiet place and a short practice recording.

A written profile explains your experience. An Introduction Video gives you another way to introduce the work you can do, in your own words. You might describe how you help a customer, organise a task or solve an everyday problem. The aim is a clear introduction, not a perfect performance. Start with one short idea you would be comfortable explaining to an employer.

A jobseeker practises a short introduction with a phone on a small stand beside a window.

Choose one message before you record

Write down the role you want, one task you can do and one detail that makes that task believable. Leave your full work history in your profile and CV. The video only needs to give a useful first introduction.

For a first attempt, aim for around 20–30 seconds and time your own read aloud. This is a suggested script length, not a promise about a plan or upload allowance. Follow the duration, file-size and format limits shown in your own HEYVN editor.

  • Who are you, and what kind of work are you looking for?
  • What is one relevant task you can do?
  • What would you like the employer to understand about that experience?

Try a script you can make your own

Here is a fictional example for someone with customer-service experience: “Hello, I’m Maya. I’m looking for front-desk or customer-service work in Dubai. In my previous role, I welcomed visitors, managed bookings and kept clear handover notes for the next shift. I enjoy helping people understand what happens next. You can find more about my experience in my profile.”

If you are starting your first job, a different example might be: “Hello, I’m Sam. I’m looking for an entry-level office role. In a course project, I used Excel to organise a small stock list and check the totals. I’m comfortable learning new systems and I like keeping records clear. I’d welcome the chance to build those skills in a team.”

Replace the example with facts that are true for you. Practise the meaning rather than memorising every word. If your natural pace takes you over the editor’s limit, remove one sentence instead of speaking faster.

Make a short sound-and-light test

Use your phone or laptop in a quiet place, steady the device near eye level and face a window or another soft light. Keep the background simple enough that attention stays on your explanation. Record a few seconds and listen back for fan noise, traffic or an echo before making your full version.

Look towards the lens when you speak. Use a comfortable pace and ordinary work language. You do not need background music, dramatic transitions or a different accent. Clear speech and a relevant example are enough for this first attempt.

  • Your voice is easy to hear at normal volume.
  • Your face is visible without a bright window directly behind you.
  • The camera stays still and the framing feels comfortable.
  • No private documents, other people or confidential work appear in the background.

Record or upload in HEYVN

In My profile, open Introduction Video and choose Record or upload introduction. You can record with the available browser controls or choose an existing file through Choose Introduction Video.

For a browser recording, allow camera and microphone access when asked. Use Start recording, then Stop recording. Preview the result, use Record again if you want another attempt and choose Save video when you are happy with it.

For a file, follow the format and size guidance shown in the editor. Wait for the saved clip to finish preparing, then play it back. Do not assume a file is ready just because its upload has started.

Check the saved clip before you include it

Ask yourself three questions: Can I hear every sentence? Does the example match my profile? Would I feel comfortable discussing it in an interview? Keep a version that answers those questions, even if it includes a natural pause.

Saving a video and making it available with your job search are separate steps. Follow the current Unlock Your Add-Ons or activation instructions in your account if you choose to include it. The current offer shows any rewards or other funding required. An Introduction Video is optional; it is not a requirement to describe your experience honestly.

Your next step

Write three short sentences about one role and one real skill. Read them aloud once, then make a test recording.
